as an independent filmmaker it can be tough to find Media without copyright. everytime I look for a song, a picture, or a video loop; I run into copyright. so here some sites and tips to help you. this is not meant to be an extensive list but merely the sites I use, if you have others you would like to add please share them in the comment section.
Images:

this site is great for finding high quality hi res images. make sure you read the Creative Commons license on each photo; most require a simple attribution in the form of a link to the Creator.
Music:
http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/
this site is great it has tons of music organized by genre. all the music on the site is licensed under Creative Commons. you can use the music available for free with a link to his website, or there are very affordable royalty free licenses and you won't have to attribute in your project.
Sounds:
http://www.freesfx.co.uk/soundeffects/animals_insects/
this site has an extensive collection of sounds. you must credit them in your project and there are some restrictions on what you can use their sounds for.
Other:
http://search.creativecommons.org/
This site is more of a search engine to find Media licensed under Creative Commons. a word of advice though it is read every license on every piece of material you consider using.
one final tip use public domain; you can use Google to search for old videos, music, and images that fall under the public domain license. these can be works that were created a long time ago and are now available to the public for use. or they can be new pieces that the Creator has simply waived their rights to. at any rate when you're creating your next project remember to give credit where credit is due. the fine folks who created this content are simply asking for a little thanks for their work.
